August 27, 2024 – Hatch—a global engineering, project delivery, and professional services firm—is exploring a joint venture with the North Shore Mi’kmaq Tribal Council (NSMTC) for Canada’s clean energy and infrastructure sectors.

“This intended joint venture will combine Indigenous vision and leadership with technical capacity, leveraging the collective strengths of the NSMTC and Hatch,” said Jim Ward, NSMTC general manager. “Together, we are embarking on a journey of shared success for the next seven generations.”

The North Shore Mi’kmaq Tribal Council primarily serves its seven member Nations (Natoaganeg, Metepenagiag, Ugpi’Ganjig, Oinpegitjoig, Tjipogtotjg, L’nui Menikuk, Amlamgog), as well as 25 other Atlantic First Nation communities.

“Unlike other engagements, the NSMTC and Hatch are bringing an Indigenous-led approach to sustainable development for the betterment of the next seven generations,” said Hatch.

Hatch says it and NSMTC have successfully worked together on various engagements over the past 25 years. The joint venture would solidify that relationship to provide services that leverage Hatch’s capabilities in:

• Feasibility/front-end studies
• Civil site development
• Environmental, sustainability, and community engagement services
• Project management
• Business advisory services

“We believe that plurality of thought creates sustainable outcomes for the communities where we live and work, and enhances our ability to deliver reliable, innovative solutions for our clients across Canada,” said Hatch’s Mario Pieries, global director, Nuclear.

A joint venture signing ceremony and celebration took place in July at the Natoaganeg (Eel Ground) Band Office Assembly Hall—the first step toward eventual commercial operation.
