June 13, 2024 – After serving 24 years as CSA Group’s project manager for the Canadian Electrical Code-Part I, Timothy (Tim) Pope is retiring.

“In Canada we have an enviable electrical safety system [and] Tim Pope is one of those people who is always working in the background to support Canadian electrical safety standards,” said Nansy Hanna, P.Eng., a member of the CE Code-Part I Technical Committee.

Pope is a certified engineering technologist and Red Seal electrician. He began his career in Electrical in 1978 as a construction electrician. In 1987, he joined the City of Winnipeg as electrical inspector/plan examiner. During this period, he became a voting member of the CE Code-Part I Technical Committee, and a member of the Canadian Advisory Council on Electrical Safety.

Just over a decade later, he joined CSA Group to manage the development of the CE Code-Part I, and other electrical safety standards.

“As the project manager, Tim’s work includes ensuring the CE Code development process is open and transparent,” Hanna said, adding that Tim draws on his knowledge and experience to help proposal submitters and CSA Group members reach consensus on proposals that advance electrical installation safety.

“It is because of the tireless work and commitment of people like Tim that help the electrical industry move forward with technology advancement while maintaining and improving the electrical safety that Canadians rely on,” Hanna said.
