July 3, 2024 | By Anthony Capkun

July 3, 2024 – Subject to regulatory approval, Sonepar is acquiring independent electrical distributor Robertson Electric Wholesale based in Vaughan, Ont.

“We look forward to partnering with Sonepar and the exciting opportunities it will offer our customers and associates,” said Rick Campbell, president, Robertson. “Our company was built on a customer-centric model, which will be strengthened with the knowledge and expertise Sonepar can provide to ensure our continued success.”

Founded in 1952, Robertson has expanded to 19 branches across Canada and over 400 associates.

“This will be an excellent strategic partnership as both Sonepar and Robertson are focused on customer service and being a great place to work,” said George McClean, president, Sonepar Canada. “We look forward to the benefits this transaction will provide to our customers, vendor partners, and the associates of both companies.”

The acquisition is scheduled to close within the next two months. Until that time, the companies will continue to operate independently.

This news comes on the heels of Sonepar acquiring Electrozad Supply Co. Ltd., an independent electrical distributor with several locations in southern Ontario.

Based in France, Sonepar is an independent family-owned company (within the Colam Entreprendre holding company) with sales of €33.3 billion in 2023. It is present in 40 countries through its network of brands.
