Simple ladder safety app from National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health

July 12, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun

July 11, 2013 – Thanks to NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association in the States) for tipping us off to a free smartphone app from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to help electrical workers who use extension ladders in their work. Available for Apple and Android, the app’s inclination indicator allows most mobile phones to provide both a visual and an audible signal when the ladder angle is correctly set. “It’s a simple idea, but those are often the best,” said Jerry Rivera, NECA director, safety. The app also includes guidelines for selecting the correct ladder for a job and information about ladder inspection, accessorizing and use.
