Scott Thon returns as AltaLink president and CEO

February 24, 2014 – AltaLink announced today that Scott Thon will return as company president and CEO, effective March 1, where he will be returning from a secondment at SNC-Lavalin as executive vice president, Global Power.

“I am proud to be back at AltaLink, and 2014 is shaping up to be an exciting year as we invest more than $1 billion into the transmission system,” said Thon. “In comparison to other Canadian provinces, AltaLink continues to provide Albertans with top quartile transmission reliability and cost efficiency.”

AltaLink’s interim president and CEO during Thon’s absence, Dennis Frehlich, will return to his previous position as executive vice president and COO.

“Dennis did a great job leading AltaLink through a very successful 2013,” said Thon. “With Dennis at the helm of a very talented group of employees, AltaLink ensured that Albertans continued to receive safe and reliable power when they needed it.”

An active member of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA), Thon serves on both its board of directors and management board. He is also a member on the board of Candu Energy and a director on the Alberta Blue Cross board.

Thon is a registered Professional Engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, and a graduate of the executive program from the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business.
