Osram acquires remaining shares of Traxon Technologies

November 9, 2011 | By Anthony Capkun

November 9, 2011 – Osram announced it has acquired the remaining shares of Traxon Technologies from its joint venture partner as of November 9, 2011. This acquisition is a further step for Osram, it says, toward becoming one of the leading suppliers of LED lighting solutions.

Osram says Traxon’s competence in LED luminaires, lighting controls systems and LED Systems and Solutions—especially for architectural, shop, and hospitality applications—complement Osram’s LED expertise.

Traxon Technologies markets its LED solutions under the brand names of Traxon and e:cue. By means of this acquisition, Osram aims to support its strategy to “expand its professional LED and lighting solutions business, both technologically and regionally”.

In 2009, Osram obtained a majority holding of 51% in Traxon, which has since been operating as a joint venture under the name of “Traxon Technologies: An Osram Company”.

Traxon will keep its legal form as Traxon Technologies Ltd. and remain part of the Osram business segment Professional Lighting Solutions. Traxon Technologies’ HQ will remain in Hong Kong and Paderborn, Germany.
