January 26, 2012 | By Alyssa Dalton

January 26, 2012 – Lighting Science Group claims to be North America’s largest producer of LED light bulbs after producing 4.5 million light bulbs in 2011—an increase of 450% when compared to 2010 numbers. The bulbs produced have a potential average annual electricity savings of approximately $43.6 million more than comparable incandescent bulbs, it said.

“Last year’s accomplishment is this year’s momentum,” said Jim Haworth, chair and CEO of Lighting Science Group. “As we celebrate 2011’s achievements, we also look ahead to our anticipated opening of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in India, our plans to penetrate both the subcontinent’s and Asian markets, and to increased consumer and business adoption of LED solutions overall.”

“We believe that by this time next year, the 4.5 million milestone will be placed in the context of an exponential growth trajectory, since this month alone I expect that we will make at least 500,000 bulbs,” he continued.
