April 15, 2014 – Innergex Renewable Energy has announced that the Mesgi’g Ugju’s’n (MU) Wind Farm has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Hydro-Quebec for a 150MW wind energy project located in the Gaspé Peninsula, Que.

This entity is controlled 50-50 by Innergex and by the three Mi’gmaq communities of Quebec—Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj; meantime, Innergex is responsible for the management of the construction and the operation of the wind farm.

“We are honoured and proud to have been chosen by the Mi’gmaq communities of Quebec to jointly develop this wind energy project, and the signing of a power purchase agreement marks an important milestone in the progression of its development,” said Michel Letellier, president and CEO of Innergex.

“This project is significant to the socio-economic development of the Mi’gmaq communities of Gesgapegiag, Gespeg and Listuguj. It will create wealth and jobs not only for our members, but also for our neighbours in Gaspésie and elsewhere in Quebec. We see great opportunities for the future,” added Chief Claude Jeannotte, chair of the Mi’gmawei Mawiomi.

According to the partners, open houses have been conducted and an information session was held in February as part of the information-gathering portion of the province’s environmental review process. They expect to begin commercial operation of the wind farm at the end of 2016.
