CASE expands electrified lineup with 580EV backhoe, plus mini excavator and compact loader

August 14, 2024 | By Anthony Capkun

August 14, 2024 – Electrified construction equipment offers crews zero-emission, low-noise solutions for a range of unique jobsite demands, says CASE Construction Equipment, including overnight construction, urban centres, or environments where noise and emissions must be kept to a minimum.

To that end, CASE has expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the commercial release of its 580EV electric backhoe loader, which boasts the same dimensional loading and digging specs—and delivers the same breakout forces—as the 580SN diesel model. Additional features include an 8-in. colour display, air-conditioning, front-dash display, and adjustable four-corner, multi-coloured LED strobe lights.

Powered by a 400V, 71-kWh lithium-ion battery platform that’s charged using the same Level 2 J1772 adapter found in automotive EVs, the unit is designed to deliver up to 8 hours of operational run-time on a single charge (depending on the application).

CASE says the 580EV will be followed by the commercial availability of two additional electric machines: the CX25EV 2.5-tonne mini excavator and CL36EV 3.6-tonne compact wheel loader.

The CX25EV mini excavator includes up to three auxiliary circuits that can be paired with a variety of quick couplers and attachments. It is also with electrohydraulic controls and a short-radius design, making it easy to maneuver in tight spaces.

The CL36EV compact wheel loader delivers the same power and performance as comparably sized diesel-powered loaders, says CASE, and can be matched with a range of attachments.

“These new machines set a new benchmark in electrification and sustainable construction […]” said Terry Dolan, vice-president, North America, CASE Construction Equipment, adding that “electrification brings real-world solutions to unique jobsite demands, helping urban construction contractors, utility teams, municipal crews and other contractors further improve productivity, efficiency and their bottom line.”
