Bunge site in Saskatchewan fined $42K for electrical safety violation

February 8, 2012 – Bunge Canada Holdings (Bunge) of Halifax, N.S., has pleaded guilty to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) Act after failing to ensure that a worker did not work within 4.6 metres of an exposed energized conductor. The company was fined $42,000.

The charge relates to an August 13, 2009, incident that occurred on a Bunge site in Nipawin, Sask. A worker, who was inspecting a railcar, was injured while attempting to remove foreign material located below a power line.
